Fan Challenge
is a networked baseball trivia game created for
Digiratti's Stadium of the Future project. Fans
around the stadium play against time and each
other for fun and prizes by interacting with
touch screens installed at their seats. New
questions are presented to participating players
between innings. Questions can be selected to
reflect conditions in the actual ball game or
they can be chosen at random from the Fan
Challenge database.

Our goal with
Fan Challenge is to keep users engaged with their
touch screens between innings. The eye-catching
visual presentation together with the humorous
bent of the trivia questions are designed to
appeal to both fans and "friends of fans."
Fan Challenge offers a mix of interesting tidbits
of baseball lore from past and present to draw
non-experts into the game of baseball while
offering the kind of challenging brain-teasers
that true baseball aficionados enjoy.

Stadium of the
Future's touch screens also allow the user to
access player stats, instant replays and current
standings of games being played around the
country. In addition to Fan Challenge, Ministry
of Thought's programmers created seven client-side
applications to display dynamically updated
player stats, photos, biographies and gametime
situations while its designers helped to spec 20+
client apps.

The
development process for Fan Challenge and
statistics apps was a model of collaboration. To
create functional prototypes, Ministry of
Thought's members completed all art and animation
for Fan Challenge, wrote 300 original trivia
questions in conjunction with Total Sports and
worked with Digiratti to finish all database and
client side programming in two and a half months.
